Use the table\u2019s call button if there is one, or politely say \u201cSumimasen,\u201d meaning \u201cExcuse me.\u201d<\/strong> JNTO\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.japan.travel\/en\/ca\/etiquette\/\">etiquette guide<\/a> describes both ways of calling staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check How This Restaurant Takes Orders<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before calling, take a quick look at your table and any instructions you were given. Is there a call button, an ordering tablet, or a menu asking you to order at the counter?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Follow that restaurant\u2019s system. A call button asks a member of staff to come over; it does not place your food order. A tablet may let you send the order directly. JNTO lists this meaning in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.japan.travel\/en\/plan\/japanese-language\/\">Japanese language guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Should You Say When Staff Arrive?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A simple \u201cI\u2019d like to order, please\u201d makes your intention clear. If you are ordering for a group, \u201cWe\u2019re ready to order\u201d also works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Point to the item or its number on the menu, and confirm how many you want. For questions that need more detail, such as ingredients, have a translation ready rather than relying on pointing alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What If Nobody Responds?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They may not have heard you or may be helping someone else. Pause, then politely try again when a server is nearby. Avoid blocking the aisle or interrupting someone carrying hot food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Service styles differ.
